Installation
To install one of the images below to a Classmate PC you need a 1G (or bigger) USB key.
Write the image to this device with the dd or rawrite tools.
Example for dd (if your usb key is detected as /dev/sdd and the image hardy-classmate-20080311.img was downloaded to /tmp):
dd if=/tmp/hardy-classmate-20080311.img of=/dev/sdd
Plug the USB key in one of the Classmate PCs USB ports, hit F11 during boot and select the key with the image from your boot menu to start the installation.
The installer is capable to install to external USB keys as well as to the internal HD To install to an external HD just plug it in before booting the installer image. You will be offered a device selection menu for the target device.
Save bandwith
All images are syncable with the zsync tool. That means that if you already have an older image on your disk you can save a lot of bandwith by using zsync which will just download the changed data and assemble the new image properly from that.
To use zsync, install the zsync package and use the command as in the example below:
zsync -o /tmp/hardy-classmate-20080312.img http://people.ubuntu.com/~ogra/classmate/images/hardy/hardy-classmate-20080313.img.zsync (This would upgrade the 20080312 image stored in /tmp to the 20080313 image)
Select an image (latest is: 20080814 Release Candiate 2)
